IC Catholic Prep Girls Club Joins Movement for Global Girl Leadership

On Saturday, November 2, Dhirendra Pratap Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Milaan Foundation, will be in town to promote Girl Leadership and the IC Catholic Prep Girls Club is actively engaged in the conversation and movement for gender equality, social justice and Girl Leadership.

Under his leadership, Milaan launched the Girl Icon Program to inspire, nurture and amplify the voices of girl leaders as empowered agents of change in their communities and the world. He actively advocates for equal rights of girls both national and globally.

The Girls Club encourages young women to develop their leadership skills and to discover and amplify their own voices on issues like social justice, equality and access.

The Girls Club is moderated by Mrs. Sindy Ortiz, school counselor, and is committed to social justice issues affecting girls and women. They have pledged to stand up, raise their voices and take charge with the Milaan Foundation to support one Indian girl in her quest to live a purpose driven life through the Girl Icon program.

“The Girls Club of IC Catholic Prep strives to advocate, educate and fundraise for issues that matter to them both locally and globally,” said Mrs. Ortiz. “Being a Catholic high school, it is a natural extension of our faith and service-learning approach to be more compassionate toward others with both our time and resources.”

In it’s second year, the Girls Club focuses on issues that affect girls and women locally and globally. Mrs. Ortiz notes that the club is very excited to pledge its support to fund one girl in the Milaan Foundation Girl Icon program. “Our girls will raise the $1,000 necessary to make this effort a reality.”

This past Friday, October 25, the Girls Club asked fellow students and community members to donate $2 to the cause and by showing their support and earning a dress down day in purple.

As mentioned, previously, the Girls Club will participate in the “4th Annual Celebration of Girl Leaders,” fundraiser at the Elmhurst Art Museum. The event begins at 6:00 pm. For more details, visit milaanfoundation.org.

The Milaan Foundation aspires to see girls in the forefront, taking charge of their lives. Like Milaan, the ICCP Girls Club knows that girls have the potential to drive social change.
