ICCP’s football team has won 33 games straight for three years. But, finally, this year, the Knights lost one game, making their record is 8-1. Although the Knights had one recent loss, it is important to celebrate some of the victories and highlights of this season.
ICCP Knights and Bishop Mac have had a rivalry for so many years and this year showed a close game. The Knights got off to a rough start as Bishop Mac picked up a fumbled ball to scored a touchdown. The Knights, down by 7, had to keep their heads up and keep playing hard. By the second half of the game, it was tied 14-14. The Knights started off with the ball and we scored, but it took a lot for our offense to score. The game ended, Knights 21 and Bishop Mac, 17. Although it was a close call, the Knights still screamed victory at the end.
The next eventful game was against Riverside Brookfield. During this game, the Knights’ star players were out for that game, so the Knights had to adjust and work as a team to win. Some of the secondary people had never played in varsity games before, so it was a great opportunity for them to step up that game. The players had to really fight to win against RB because they were nervous and had to get in momentum. In the beginning of the game, the Knights scored, and it was 7-0. At the end of the second quarter, the score was 7-7 . The coaches expected more out of the team and pushed their secondary players, reminding them of their experience working with starting players. The Knights came back in the second half with a much better attitude and played harder. Making another touchdown and changing the score to 14-7, ICCP led itself again to victory as Riverside Brookfield could not keep up. The game started off as a close game, but the Knights pulled through, gaining confidence and experience. Ultimately, the Knights were happy that they won and so proud that they had fought harder.
The final game was ICCP Knights at St. Francis and it was an intense experience. The game started off well until the Knights got on defense. When on defense, the Knights did the best they could, yet unfortunately let St. Francis score touchdowns. However, at the end of the first half, the score was 14-7 and the Knights were winning. The Knights had possession of the ball, but they were intercepted. Then, they were on defense and stopped St. Francis’s offense from scoring. The Knights had scored again, but St. Frances had blocked the kick so the Knights only had a score of 20. St. Francis had scored twice on the Knights, and the score was 19-20. The clock was ticking, so the Knights decided to attempt a field goal. Unfortunately, they missed, losing the game 19-20. All in all, the Knights have maintained a great record over the past three years. As playoff season begins in November, come out to support the football team.
