ICCP Volleyball, Knight Times

October 26th marks the last game for ICCP’s varsity volleyball. Coach Nancy Kerrigan has not only led the varsity volleyball team to victory countless times, but also taught girls the true meaning of volleyball. Several Freshmen, JV, and Varsity volleyball team players have all said volleyball has changed their lives for the better, not only skill wise but it has showed them how to be more responsible as well.

For example, Senior Bella Leslie  explains how “being on time, working as a team to set up all of the equipment before practices and games, and most importantly proper sportsmanship” has impacted her as she has been a part of ICCP’s volleyball family since she was a freshman. When asked about her experience here and if it had changed her for the better, she responded, “The last four years have been a great experience” as she also spoke of skills she has learned and utilized over the past four years. “I’ve also learned that hard work and dedication leads to success. These components have not only lead me through my four years of ICCP volleyball, but they have lead me in events outside of the sport.”

What would she like to say to incoming IC Catholic Prep freshmen who are looking forward to joining the volleyball team? She answered with “I would say that no matter how hard a practice or training session may be, it will always pay off. If you work hard in practice then it will translate into games. I would also say to stay committed and to build relationships with everyone on your team because you will make memorable that will last forever.”

Finally when asked seniors Carly Holden, Victoria Bernero, and Bella Leslie if they thought their last volleyball season here was a success. Bella said “I think it was because our team has proved tremendous growth since last season. We are proving to teams that no matter our size, we can still put up a good fight.” Carly said “I’ve built so many memories with this team and I have learned many lessons that I can carry with me after I graduate. Finally Victoria said “this season for me has definitely had its ups and downs, but when it all comes down to it I consider it a success because of the things I’ve learned along the way. This program has taught me lessons bigger than volleyball, like how to put others first and never give up on something you love.” As expressed by the young women of ICCP, volleyball is not only a competitive sport; it’s a way to teach people several skills in everyday life.

JV and Freshman last volleyball game was Wednesday October 23rd which was a home game from 4:30 to 7:30 against St. Francis. But Varsity’s season is not over just yet. They will continue their season for playoffs and finals which will be located on our home court from 8:15 to 4:15, so come support our varsity Lady Knights.
