IC Catholic Prep has many fascinating teachers, and senior English teacher Mr. Nichin is definitely among the most fascinating. When asked about where he went to high school, Mr. Nichin replied that he is a graduate of Saint Laurence high school in Chicago. When he was younger, Mr. Nichin did not have his heart set on being a teacher, and it was only after speaking with his college coach that he decided that he wanted to help students. When asked what his favorite thing about teaching was, he responded by saying, “I would say developing relationships with my students and being able to see them grow.”
When asked what is his favorite thing about ICCP, he said that his favorite thing about ICCP is the fact that everyone knows each other because of the size of the school. He added that if ICCP were a bigger school, there are people that the students and teachers would never meet. Since Mr. Nichin has spent a significant amount of time teaching, he has experienced many different atmospheres from public to private and from big to small. He added that most of his memorable teaching moments being at ICCP. When asked what some of his favorite moments are, he said that he has enjoyed all of the times that graduates of ICCP come back to visit because former students.
When asked what he likes to do other than teach, Mr. Nichin said, “I like to spend time with my wife, I like to watch baseball, basketball, and hockey, and I like to go to the movies.” Interviewing Mr. Nichin revealed how he is a person who cares deeply about his students and ICCP. This sets him apart from many teaching in the field of education today.
