On Friday, January 31, IC Catholic Prep hosted 20 professionals representing a wide range of industries to speak with students about their careers and what inspired them to pursue their personal and professional pathways after high school.
Many are returning alumni, members of the League of Knights, who took advantage of the opportunity to provide professional advice to current students and future alumni.
As I continue in to week two of my internship at IC Catholic Prep, I found the Career Day experience to be pretty cool. From my understanding, a lot of schools in Frankfurt do not host this type of event for high school students and I heard over and over again from students and presenters alike that this a great way to introduce the kind of professional opportunities that exist.
Also, I noted that the presentation style of the career day at IC Catholic Prep made it more of a formal experience for students because each of the presenters came with a PowerPoint and additional materials to share with the student body.
Although presentations were formal, I liked that most of the presenters allowed for an interactive and engaging conversation with students. Students were encouraged to ask questions in real time making the conversation more personable.
I observed that both the students and presenters enjoyed the experience of gaining insight into specific careers and the many pathways taken. It isn’t always a straight path of graduate from high school, attend college, and then jump into the workplace.
I was impressed by Career Day 2020 and I believe that I was not alone!
