IC Catholic Prep Statement on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear IC Catholic Prep Community:

Currently, there have been no confirmed COVID-19 cases in our school community.

Even so, with the number of cases across the state and region increasing and as a result of our communications and coordination with the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD), IC Catholic Prep is taking proactive measures to help reduce the spread of illness throughout our community.

Although we are not closing school at this time, IC Catholic Prep is implementing the following measures until further notice:

  • Large gatherings that include visitors from outside the school who are not our students, are canceled. This includes:
    • 3/17/20 ICCP Reconciliation Service
    • 3/20/20 — MSC Art Competition
    • 4/8/20 ICCP Service Day
  • Athletic practices or competitions without spectators may continue as planned. While we know watching our students compete is an important part of our role as parents and educators, we ask that you do not attend our home sporting events at this time. If we are scheduled for an away event at another school that does not have the same prohibition on fans, we will withdraw from that event
  • All school trips are canceled including all spring break trips for athletic teams and service learning trips.  Decisions about trips scheduled for the summer will be made at a later time.
  • All field trips are canceled.
  • Suspension of all outside group rental or use of our school building or facilities.

We will evaluate whether or not these activities and events can be rescheduled at a later time or held in a virtual format.  Please know that the list above is not a complete list and we will make decisions about other events and programs as they approach.

In addition, we are reminding all students, staff and faculty, that if travelling to any area listed on the CDC Travel Advisories with a Level 2 or above Travel Notice that those individuals are asked to stay home and self-quarantine for 14 days following their return. Because the situation is fluid, you may also be asked to self-quarantine if you return from a visit to a domestic area with a high rate of COVID-19 cases.

If we do have a confirmed case of COVID-19 at IC Catholic Prep, we will close school for 24 hours. At that point, the DCHD would help us assess the situation, evaluate our cleaning and disinfection practices, and reduce the risk and vulnerability to students. We would then work on a plan to move forward. Until then, school will remain open and we will continue our cleaning and disinfection practices as directed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We will revisit these protocols as necessary.

As we receive new information, we will send it to you as soon as we can.

These are unprecedented times. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this situation together.

Sincerely,

Tom Schergen, Principal
