IC Catholic Prep Student Spotlight
Katarina is one of eleven recipients of the Monsignor Plunkett Distinguished Scholar Award – Class of 2020. This honor is the highest academic award given to ICCP senior students to honor their outstanding achievements and their commitment to academic excellence.
She will be off to the University of Notre Dame in the fall in pursuit of a computer science & marketing degree. As the founder and executive director of Teach Times Two, Katarina plans to simultaneously grow the project and finish her degree and find career success in her field of study.
Katarina received acceptance to Georgetown University, Boston College, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saint Louis University, Loyola University Chicago, Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame, and the University of Illinois at Chicago with scholarships and other financial assistance.
She frequently participated in extracurricular activities, including leadership roles president of the Business Professionals of America, co-president of the math team, editor of the Knight Times Newspaper, the senior leader of the Knights of the Roundtable, and various positions with the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program. As a 2020 Illinois State Scholar, Katarina received the three first-place awards in the IC Catholic Prep Spring Art Show. Recognized with the Presidents’ Volunteer Service Award – Gold, Katarina committed to over 250 hours of service in her senior year alone.
Katarina came to IC Catholic Prep from Holy Ghost School.
When asked about her fondest memory at IC Catholic Prep, she noted “My favorite memory from IC is probably from the first day of my Freshman year. I still remember being a nervous wreck and paralyzed with embarrassment when I tripped up the stairs in front of what felt like, at the time, the entire school. Instead of laughing at me, students stopped what they were doing to help me pick up my books and reassure me. That memory stands out to me, because it was when I first realized how special the IC community is, and it became a symbol of all of the love and support I would receive from my classmates and teachers throughout the next four years.”
