Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Lynch Tardiff, 1993

Each month we will feature a member of our alumni (the League of Knights) to highlight their accomplishments after graduating from IC Catholic Prep. This month, we spoke teacher, parent and alumnae, Sarah Lynch Tardiff, class of 1993. Sarah earned her bachelors in sociology from the University of Notre Dame while completing her education classes at St Mary’s College.

ICCP: What was your favorite subject in school?

Sarah: Probably Spanish with Señora Kelly… It was also probably one of my hardest. She was an excellent teacher and we even took a field trip to Tortilla Flats as a Spanish IV class in the middle of the day and celebrated Mary Beth Bauernfeind Lucas’, class of 1993, birthday.

ICCP: What is your best memory from your time at IC?

Sarah: I think I have a lot of favorite memories…winning tennis conference as a team and in doubles with Jen Devereaux Perez ’92 junior year… playing basketball…retreats at LaSalle Manor…making lifelong friends.

ICCP: What are some highlights from your career?

Sarah: My career has always been in Catholic education as a junior high and high school science and religion teacher and basketball coach. I have seen my students go on to be amazing young people and have had the opportunity to reconnect with former students. I started a Campus Ministry team at St. Scholastica Academy, and I teach morality that engages in meaningful discussion with juniors at IC. I finished a Masters of Arts in pastoral studies from Loyola University while continuing to teach at IC.

I also had the great honor of taking over as the Theology department chair from our beloved Jane Connors. Our department kept daily prayer going during the stay at home order this past quarter. I feel so lucky to work on such an amazing team.

ICCP: What is one other thing you would like to share with IC alumni?

Sarah: IC Catholic Prep really is a fantastic place with amazing people – faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni. The faculty continue to be beyond dedicated, the staff care immensely, the students are diverse and talented and the parents always answer the call to help and the alums stay connected to this place.  I feel lucky and grateful to have experienced IC from the student, parent, faculty and alumni perspective, and I continue to be grateful to be teaching in a diverse community and to have my son learning in the same community.
