Smith named new ICCP Baseball Head Coach

IC Catholic Prep announces that Matthew Smith has accepted the position as the Knight’s Baseball Coach. With a strong coaching background, we are convinced that he will add another layer of success to an already solid baseball program.

Matt has been a head coach and an assistant coach at multiple levels of high school and travel baseball. In January of 2020, he was hired as the sophomore head coach at St. Francis, however due to COVID-19, his tenure was shortened hastily. Matt has a great passion for player development and pitcher development.

“After an extensive search that gained much interest, I am thrilled to have Matt lead our baseball program,” Michael Fahey, ICCP Athletic Director said. “His baseball knowledge, passion for the game, and extensive experience in uplifting young men through Catholic values proves he is the right guy for the job.”

Prior to arriving in Wheaton, Matt served as the Pitching Program Director at Loyola Academy since 2017. He is a student of the game and he has a proven track record in developing young arms. Over the past five seasons, Matt has been a part of programs that continually reach and go far in the playoffs, including IHSA Super-Sectional Championships. He served as the varsity assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, Notre Dame College Prep from 2014-2017.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to build the IC Catholic Prep baseball program,” said Matt. “And, I have very high expectations for our student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field.”

Matt, a Notre Dame High School (’03) graduate, was a four-year varsity baseball player for NCAA Division III Concordia University Chicago in River Forest. In 2007, Smith graduated with a B.S. in Business from Concordia. In addition, he earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Concordia University Chicago. He currently teaches Physical Education at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview, IL. He and his wife Kim have two children, Kennedy and Easton.
