Through our Catholic, college preparatory curriculum, we encourage students to achieve their maximum potential and exemplify the Catholic values taught at IC Catholic Prep. Faculty, staff, administration, students and parents strive to work together to form a loving, Christ-centered community of believers. Counseling

Counseling Department Mission Statement

The mission of the IC Catholic Prep School Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that addresses students’ academic, college/career, and social/emotional development. In partnership with other educators, parents/guardians, and the community, the school counselors facilitate the promotion of a support system to ensure that students at ICCP have the knowledge and skills to confidently face life’s challenges, live meaningful lives and make a positive difference in the world.

Elmhurst University — Senior Option Program

In 1995, IC Catholic Prep and Elmhurst University designed the Senior Option Program to enable exceptional ICCP students to take advanced courses in the areas of mathematics, science and world language. This program allows our students the opportunity to take advanced course offerings after they have successfully completed the ICCP offered AP courses and have fulfilled their graduation requirements. ICCP students have a unique and valuable opportunity to take a college course and earn college credits.

Since its inception, the Senior Option Program has benefitted many of our talented students. In recent years, several of our seniors have even started their college careers with as many as 27-30 credit hours due to AP credits and courses taken at Elmhurst University.

Computer Science

The Computer Science Department offers a variety of courses designed to empower students with the  technological skills needed to be successful in an ever changing global society. Students are challenged to think critically, work collaboratively, and develop the creative and ethical skills needed to thrive in the business world. All courses incorporate project based learning to provide students with opportunities to showcase their abilities.

The English Department offers a comprehensive college preparatory program in the study of all language arts: writing, literature, vocabulary, grammar, research, and speech. All course outcomes include the development of critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. Each course incorporates a variety of both fictional and nonfictional works while emphasizing the strong connection between reading and writing.

Fine Arts

The Fine Arts Department offers elective courses in the visual, performing, and graphic arts with the purpose of fostering critical and creative thinking through student exploration and expression. In visual art courses, students utilize a variety of materials to develop artistic abilities in the areas of drawing, painting, and sculpting. In the performing arts, students of all abilities, from beginner to advanced musician, grow their musical talents through individual and group instruction. Students frequently participate in performance events both in and outside of the school environment.

Mathematics

The Mathematics Department offers courses in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Statistics at all levels from college preparatory to Honors and Advanced Placement. At each level, students are provided a challenging, thought-provoking curriculum that helps students gain a rich understanding of mathematics and its daily applications to the real world.

Physical Education & Health

The Physical Education and Health Department offers a sequential educational program that focuses on the development of sustained physical fitness throughout their lifetime. Students improve their motor and cognitive skills to establish a healthy lifestyle while understanding how their bodies work. Our comprehensive curriculum provides students the opportunity to develop body awareness, explore movement, discover cooperative and recreational games, improve sport-specific skills, experience team sports, study/practice fitness based activities, and study the coaching and sport management industry.

Science

The Science Department offers courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with a wide variety of electives including Anatomy, Environmental Science, Engineering, and Forensics. Students commonly analyze data, formulate scientific conclusions, and develop literacy through a variety of scientific practices and literature. All courses incorporate both traditional and inquiry based labs in to the classroom experience.

Business and Social Studies

The Business and Social Studies Department offers courses in World History, United States History, and United States Government at all levels from college preparatory to Honors and Advanced Placement. In addition, a diverse offering of elective courses allows students to become inquisitive, knowledgeable, and empathetic individuals in a classroom setting that encourages students to think like historians and develop important communication skills. Students analyze historical events, judge the implications and consequences, and develop writing skills through extensive research. This Department seeks to create value-driven, globally aware students who are active American citizens in their community, in their country, and abroad.

Theology

The Theology Department offers a curriculum based upon the Bishops Framework for Secondary Schools. Students take four years of theology focusing on scripture (both Old and New Testament), Church history, the sacraments, morality, Catholic social teaching, and vocations. Seniors choose between a service course and an apologetics course in their final semester. All courses seek to develop not only the mind but the spirit through reflection, service opportunities, and participation in yearly retreats.

World Languages

The World Language Department offers courses in the Italian and Spanish languages and cultures. Spanish and Italian courses are designed to establish a link between communication and culture, which is applied in making connections and comparisons and in using this competence to be part of local and global communities.  Each level strives to develop student confidence in the oral and written expression of the language through real-life situations that would allow a student to confidently navigate life in the target language.
