Principal Dispatch—February 2020

THE KNIGHT SPIRIT IS STRONG.

The Knight Spirit is in full swing this semester and this week has been abuzz with Turnabout Week activities. Our students have turned back the clock and donned themed attire to celebrate the week. Thank you to Mrs. Ferguson and Ms. Tracy for all that they have done to put together a fun week.
We celebrated two Distinguished Alumni during Catholic Schools Week. Jack Keimel ’69 and Tom Manion ’72 were honored for leading lives of excellence built on the solid foundation of a dynamic Catholic learning environment—like IC Catholic Prep.

After Mass and the Blessing of the Throats in the Immaculate Conception Church, we honored the January Students and Teacher of the Month (see photo above).

This year’s Knight of Jewels, the 50th Anniversary Celebration, was a great night in support of our school and students. We’re grateful to our co-chairs (The Meurers, the Halls, the Liszkas, and the Zanonis) for all they did to make the evening so successful. (View photos on Flickr).

Here are additional highlights from the previous month:
    • Marc Brown and her awesome Kairos team have completed another successful year of Kairos Retreats for our students.
    • The Knights Wrestling Team hosted a successful Youth Knight (read more) and is sending a record six (6) wrestlers to the State Tournament this week. Good luck! (See more on Instagram).
    • We hosted 20 professionals for Career Day 2020 (read more).
    • Our Basketball programs hosted another incredible Coaches vs. Cancer event focused on remembering loved ones who have been affected by Cancer. Read our guest blogger’s take on the event.
    • Congratulations to John Rossi and the Knights Engineering Club for claiming the Rookie of the Year Award in the First Tech Challenge League Championships (read more)!
    • We’re excited to introduce five (5) new courses to our college prep curriculum in 2020-2021, including “Principles of Engineering” in partnership with Project Lead the Way. The 2020-2021 Curriculum Guide is now available online (read more).
    • Furthermore, we’re thrilled to introduce National Honor Society peer tutoring in 2020-2021 to create an even stronger NHS experience at our school.
    • The Lady Knights Basketball team wrapped up their season with a narrow defeat in the Regional Championship. My Suburban Life wrote a great article about the team (read more). Senior Knight photos are available on Flickr.

May Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception continue to guide and protect you. Go Knights!

Sincerely,

Tom Schergen,
Principal
